A Raisin in the Sun
Audience seating is directly on stage for this producion. The Youngers are a 1950s African-American family including son Walter Lee, his wife Ruth, his son Travis,his sister Beneatha, and his mother, Lena, called Mama. Mama's husband has passed away and she dreams of moving to a new home and a better neighborhood when his insurance money becomes available. Walter,however, wants to buy a liquor store with the money, while his sister, Beneatha, dreams of medical school. The tensions and prejudice they face, as well as their heroic struggle to retain their dignity in the harsh and changing world of the time, are the core of this piercing, yet inspirational drama.
