Intersections: Gordon Parks | Thelma Golden and Glenn Ligon in Conversation
The Studio Museum celebrates the Gordon Parks centennial year with a conversation between Director and Chief Curator Thelma Golden and artist Glenn Ligon. The conversation illuminates two centennial exhibitions: Contact: Gordon Parks, Ralph Ellison and "Invisible Man," which was presented at Howard Greenberg Gallery from September 14 to October 27, 2012 and Gordon Parks: A Harlem Family 1967, on view at the Studio Museum through March 10, 2013.

Curated by Ligon, Contact examined photographs from Gordon Parks's "Invisible Man" series, many first published in LIFE magazine upon the release of Ralph Ellison's award-winning novel. The images address the social and racial issues explored in the book and present re-stagings of some specific scenes. A Harlem Family 1967, organized by Golden and Assistant Curator Lauren Haynes, features thirty black-and-white photographs of the Fontenelle family, whose lives Parks documented as part of a 1968 LIFE photo essay.

Intersections is a series of discussions featuring contemporary cultural producers, curators, authors and artists. Intersections: Gordon Parks is supported by a grant from the New York Council for the Humanities. Special thanks to the Gordon Parks Foundation, who provided essential support and assistance in organizing Gordon Parks: A Harlem Family 1967.

This program is free with Museum admission but advance ticket reservation is advised.
