The Nutcracker Ballet
The Arnold Food Pantry is pleased to present our annual production of the Christmas holiday favorite, "The Nutcracker". This year we are excited to announce that we will have a LIVE ORCHESTRA, The Belleville Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by the prestigious Dr. Robert Hart Baker (see bio included below). The Nutcracker will be performed by the BELLEVILLE BALLET THEATRE.   Belleville School of Ballet has a group of young non-professional dancers and an experienced group of older dancers who are involved in various performances throughout the year. Performances have included lecture demonstrations for area schools, participation in Illinois Arts Week and dance concerts with The Belleville Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, the school hosts guest choreographers to set original and classical ballets for our dancers.

The Nutcracker Ballet is based on the story "The Nutcracker and the King of Mice" by E.T.A. Hoffman. It is the story of a young German girls who dreams of a Nutcracker Prince and a fierce battle against a Mouse King with seven heads. When Marius Petipa had the idea to choreograph the story into a ballet, it was actually based on a revision by Alexander Dumas, a well known French Author.

The story opens on Christmas eve at the home of Stahlbaum's. They have two children, Clara and Fritz. Presents are given to the children and Clara receives a nutcracker from a guest.  Her brother Fritz breaks the nutcracker and Clara is heartbroken.

After the family has gone to bed, Clara returns to the parlor to check on her broken nutcracker.  As the clock strikes midnight, mice begin to fill the room and the Christmas tree begins to grow. The Nutcracker grows to human size and Clara finds herself in the middle of a battle between an army of gingerbread soldiers and mice, led by their king.

Clara travels to the Land of Sweets which is ruled by the Sugar Plum Fairy. The story becomes even more visual with dancers from around the world. As the story ends..........

I encourage all to attend for what will most certainly be a sold out performance. Children of all ages will be mesmerized by what is a "feast for the eyes". Come and spend an evening with us.
