A self-proclaimed introvert herself, author Susan Cain argues that our culture holds a decided bias toward the Extrovert Ideal (the alpha personalitygregarious and highly verbal) while undervaluing the strengths of introverts (reflectiveness, persistence, and sensitivity), and how much we lose in doing so.
Many of the greatest achievers of the twentieth century were introverts: Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosa Parks, Warren Buffett, and Mahatma Gandhi, to name a few. Without introverts, the world would have missed out on the Apple computer, the Theory of Relativity, van Gogh's sunflowers, and The Cat in the Hat.
Cain shows us how to change the way we work, lead, and teach in order to tap the abundant strengths of the quieter half of the population.
