Casino Moderne 2017
The Art Deco Society of Los Angeles presents Casino Moderne, an evening of vintage gaming (poker, roulette, craps and more) featuring a 1919 Roulette Wheel and Pool Table, hot jazz from Janet Klein and Her Parlor Boys, between sets music from the Howling Hobo DJ, a silent auction teeming with vintage prizes, burlesque from Lily Faye and plenty of prohibition style cocktails (no-host) at the 1929 Art Deco American Legion Post 43 in Hollywood. Richard Halpern, Mr. Tin Pan Alley will perform a few numbers with the band. Tours of the incredible Art Deco building, as well as a visit to the private museum are included in this evening of fun and games at an historic landmark.
The Wall Street Journal just called American Legion Post 43, "The hottest private club in Hollywood." The American Legion, founded in 1919 to aid WWI veterans, opened Post 43 on Highland Avenue in 1929 to much fanfare. The Post become intertwined with the entertainment industry and many a popular actress was installed as an honorary colonel to keep spirits up during WWII. The Post continues to serve veterans today, but it is also a private event location. The Art Deco Society of Los Angeles is thrilled to be able to hold Casino Moderne in a building steeped in history. The "underground" Art Deco bar has a speakeasy feel that is perfect for this event. We look forward to sharing this normally private space with our members and others coming to celebrate the 1920s and 30s with us.
