How to Write Like I Do, with Book-It Repertory Theatre
How do you adapt a novel into a compelling script for the stage? How do you transform great literature into great theatre?

We break down the process in this interactive workshop with Jane Jones, (Founder and Co-Artistic Director of Book It) and Kevin McKeon, (the adaptor of Book-It's acclaimed 'Anna Karenina') and consider the writer/director relationship and the importance of collaboration.

Jane Jones has been staging works of literature for twenty-five years and has performed, adapted and directed works by such literary giants as Charles Dickens, Edith Wharton, Pam Houston, Raymond Carver, Frank O'Connor, Ernest Hemingway, John Irving, John Steinbeck, Daphne du Maurier, and Jane Austen. A veteran actress of thirty years, she has played leading roles on many of America's most prominent regional theatres.

Kevin is a Seattle theatre artist who has worked extensively with the interpretation of contemporary and classical literature for the stage. He is a director, actor and adaptor for Book-It Repertory Theatre, where he has helped birth world premiere productions of A Tale of Two Cities, Anne Tyler's Breathing Lessons, Plainsong, Great Expectations, and The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears. His adaptation of David Guterson's Snow Falling on Cedars has been seen in regional theatres on both coasts and was produced at Portland Center Stage in 2010.

Participants are invited to buy food and/or drinks from Naked City who are hosting this event; table service will be provided throughout the workshop.  826 Seattle will provide paper and writing implements and will offer a 25% discount at their Greenwood Space Travel Supply Company store (day of workshop only).
