WILD Animal Portrait Paint Night by The Social Pet Sitter
A remix on the regular Pet Portrait Paint Night that is usually offered!
We will be painting WILD animals in the same funky, loose, bright style that we've used in previous paint nights!
Love Bison, Wolves, Owls, Deer, or Racoons? This is your chance to make your very own unique portrait of one!
A portion of each ticket sale will be donated directly to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre of Edmonton (WildNorthAB). I respect and highly regard the work that they do, and I want to spread awareness for their cause, as well as raise some money for them, so they can continue doing their amazing work!!
What's included:
-All art materials (paint, canvas, palettes, paint brushes, water containers, paint rags, etc) -Complementary beverages (juice, water) and some light snacks -2.5 hours of instruction and support
What you need to bring:
-Clothes that you would be okay getting paint on (an apron, a painting shirt, etc) -A printed out picture of your favorite WILD animal***see below for suggestions on choosing a photo that will be best for painting*** -- Same suggestions apply from previous paint nights! -A positive outlook that's not too attached to the outcome :) -A playful spirit!
You do NOT need to be an experienced artist to attend this paint night!
We will be focusing on capturing an expressive portrait of your WILD animal. This means that your painting does NOT need to be photo-representational, but more of an expression that is unique to you and the spirit of your chosen animal.
Check out the images attached to see the 'style' we are aiming for!
I will guide the group through steps that will help you achieve an expressive portrait. There is no right or wrong in this style; it's a style that gives the artist a license to be creative!
However, I will be available to offer tips and tricks if you would like them.
Suggestions for choosing a picture of your animal:
1. Try to choose a picture of your animal from a three quarter view (slightly off center) or side view. This usually helps beginner painters. Also, if your animal has horns, make sure that they are included in the picture (not cut out of the frame). Google has some really great high resolution/high quality reference images that you can choose from.
2. Try to make sure you choose a photo that isn't fuzzy, and the lighting is even enough so you can see most of the animal's features. Some shadows can be exciting, but can sometimes be difficult to figure out in paint.
3. Try to make sure the photo is mostly of the animal only. Other things in the picture can be distracting and you may not really be able to see as many details of your animal that you'd like. Unless, of course your animal is on a branch (it's a bird), or it's in front of some trees (all good!) Just NOT a TINYYY Wolf that only takes up a milimetre of your whole page photo! Make sure the animal takes up most of the page!
4. I would try to limit the photo you choose to the face, neck and upper body of the animal. You can try to do the full body of the animal, but it can sometimes be challenging to get proper proportions, especially with things like elk, deer, buffalo, etc. It's doable! But don't be upset if it doesn't work out as you thought it would! Painting a portrait of the face of an animal (3/4 or side view) is a safer bet. :)
Come meet other passionate animal loving do-gooders, have some fun, and raise some money for a very worthy cause!!
