Event
Reservoir
Consolidated Works presents Reservoir, an evening of new works by emerging choreographer/performer/film-maker Jessie Smith, February 4 and 5 at 8PM. Tickets are $12 advance and $15 at the door.
This debut production of Smith's company, Dead Bird Movement, features the premiere of two dance films Rivet/Rivulet and In Memory of Corrosion in addition to a live dance/music performance entitled Craning.
Rivet/Rivulet and In Memory of Corrosion are Jessie Smith's most recent dance cinema works. They feature performances by Seattle dance veterans Ellie Sandstrom and Pam Gregory as well as Smith. In these films, Smith places her choreography in raw, industrial settings. She explores the ways in which dance is affected by harsh footing, trying weather, and other uncontrollable influences.
Craning, the live dance/music piece, sprang from explorations where Smith jumped, perched and tossed herself upon percussionist Pol Rosenthal while he played a bass drum strapped to his chest. This theme developed into an aggressive, acrobatic partnering performance between dancers and instrument wielding musicians. The musicians, Hester Angus, Samantha Boshnack, Beth Fleenor, Robb Kunz, and Pol Rosental, juggle the act of partnering while simultaneously playing the score. Tamin Totzke and Smith weave dance solos and duets between their interactions with the musicians. Their movement sweeps through waves of momentum abruptly interrupted in a style of released-attack.
The program will be followed by a set from Seattle's radical marching band/drum corps, the Infernal Noise Brigade.
Thursday, February 2, ConWorks will present an open rehearsal "pay what you can" performance. Tickets available at door night of performance.
Reservoir is made possible by grants from Artist Trust and The Mayor's Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs.
