HOLD THIS STONE
HOLD THIS STONE is an original evening of poetry, performance art and dialogue, written by Nikiko Masumoto and Brynn Saito, fourth generation Japanese Americans. They will guide the audience through modes of listening, as they speak to "How do we carry, reinvigorate and reimagine the weight of our histories?

Nikiko Masumoto is a writer, storyteller and performance artist. Her writing and performing have surged from the root of memory and Japanese American experiences. Nikiko will enact moments from "What We Could Carry," her original solo show.

Brynn Saito is a published poet. Her "Stone Poems" conjure voices and stories of family members incarcerated in the Gila River concentration camp in Arizona. She will also share recent poems from her second book, "Power Made Us Swoon."

The Yonsei Memory Project is a collaboration led by Masumoto and Saito, and utilizes arts-based inquiry to generate dialogue connecting the World War II incarceration of the Japanese American community with current civil liberties debates. Their "Living Memory Lab" seeks to awaken archives of Japanese American history and will culminate in an interactive "Day of Remembrance" performance in February 2018.

On Friday, November 10th, Dr. Samina Najmi, California State University Fresno Professor, who teaches courses in contemporary multiethnic U.S. literature, will facilitate Q&A with the audience following the performance.

CURTAIN 5 TheatreGROUP is proud to present HOLD THIS STONE to benefit the Yonsei Memory Project and its fiscal sponsor, The Fresno Arts Council. Your ticket purchase is tax deductible.
