SITI Thought Center Presents: COLLABORATION CONVERSATIONS
As SITI dives into our fall season of SITI Thought Center events, we are launching a new series, called "Collaboration Conversations". Collaboration has always been at the heart of SITI's work. It is in the way we develop new work as an ensemble, our partnerships with other artists and thinkers, and our dedication to international cultural exchange. In the coming months, SITI will host a series of "Collaboration Conversations" with our Co-Artistic Directors Anne Bogart, Leon Ingulsrud and Ellen Lauren where, with some very special guests, we will discuss the principles, challenges and opportunities that collaboration entails. Please join us in our Zeisler studio for these stimulating evenings.
Our first "Collaboration Conversation" will invite Elizabeth Streb to speak with Anne Bogart. A MacArthur "Genius" Award-winner, Streb has dived through glass, allowed a ton of dirt to fall on her head, walked down (the outside of) London's City Hall, and set herself on fire, among other feats of extreme action. Her popular book, STREB: How to Become an Extreme Action Hero, was made into a hit documentary Born to Fly, directed by Catherine Gund. Streb founded the STREB EXTREME ACTION COMPANY in 1985, and in 2003 she established SLAM, the STREB Lab for Action Mechanics in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. SLAM's garage doors are always open: anyone and everyone can come in, watch rehearsals, take classes, and learn too fly.
On September 27th, Streb and Bogart will discuss collaboration; particularly the upcoming partnership between STREB EXTREME ACTION and the SITI Company. These two companies will collaborate on a new production using text by SITI Company member Charles Mee, and we are thrilled to be inviting you into our process!
