Brahms & Tchaikovsky (Renton)
The Seattle Festival Orchestra gets its 2017-18 season off to a rousing start under Wesley Schulz's baton with Tchaikovsky's Fifth. Though he may be more famous for ballets like Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker, the Russian composer's 1888 piece is suitably symphonic, progressing from a somber beginning to an uplifting, triumphant march in the final movement. Also set to be performed at Seattle's Plymouth Church is Brahms' Double Concerto for Violin and Cello, featuring musicians Carrie Rehkopf and John Michel.
