Since 2006, the company has presented 16 world premieres of new musicals and operas, as well as numerous workshops and readings. It also presents educational outreach programming for children.

RSO recently concluded its 11th season with a series of national and international engagements, including appearances at the O'ahu, Maui, Tampa, Orlando, Montreal, and Minnesota Fringe Festivals and a performance tour in the American South. Its award-winning production of Game of Thrones: The Musical was the best-selling show for its venue in O'ahu and the best-selling show for the whole festival in Tampa. Its production of the one-woman play A Pickle was 100% sold out at the 2017 Minnesota Fringe Festival, received an encore performance (also sold out), and was a recipient of the Twin Cities Arts Reader's "Best of Fringe" Award.

In 2018, RSO will officially kick off its Women in Opera Initiative, a 3-year program to produce new operas written by women. Works produced in this series must be written 50% or more by female writers, have a majority of female characters, and avoid common opera stereotypes and tropes.
