This in-depth retreat entitled 'Embracing and Soothing our Fears and Anxieties' runs from 9th to 11th March, 2018 and addresses the issue that most of us live in a state of fear - of our past, of illness and aging and death, of losing the things we treasure most - and the fact that it doesn't have to be this way. The retreat will show us how to use the practice of living in the present to acknowledge and embrace our fears, recognize their origins and reduce their power. Focusing on diligence in the exercise of mindfulness, interbeing and ethical conduct the retreat will guide us through practical exercises for transforming fear into clarity. The retreats purpose is to help practitioners deepen their understanding and practice of the Plum Village mindfulness tradition and the teachings of Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh. It will be led by UK Dharma Teachers Jane Coatesworth and Theresa Payne. The retreat is suitable for those with an established understanding of mindfulness and a regular practice and will include: - a set text to study beforehand : Fear: Essential Wisdom for Getting Throughthe Storm, 2012 by Thich Nhat Hanh; - opportunities to practice a variety of techniques to help reduce fear and anxiety; - the opportunity to learn from others through dharma sharing/exploration; and - teachings by the Dharma Teachers.
This is one of a series of retreats where the teachings are applied to a variety of different every day experiences.
The retreat is being organised by the Community of Interbeing. We are a growing network of people in the UK who practice mindfulness and aspire to develop peace and happiness in ourselves and in the world by living according to the teachings on global ethics of Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh. His teachings, which can be followed by people of all ages and any religion or none, are notable for their emphasis on joy, engagement in the world, and integrating the practice of mindfulness into daily life. We are a registered educational charity which offers a programme of courses, retreats and events and encourages and supports local groups that meet to practice mindfulness.
