"Sundays at Seven" is a performance series presented by TWEED TheaterWorks, Kevin Malony Artistic Director.
TWEED TheaterWorks (EST 1983), Kevin Malony Artistic director, has been partnering with Pangea for the past three years to present a stellar performance series on Sundays (and some others days!) that combines the best of the "old school' and the "up & coming" musical, performance, and theater artists that NYC has to offer. www.tweedtheater.org
"In a word, phenomenal". Stephen Holden, The New York Times
"The soulful spirit of Laura Nyro meets the surrealist warble of Yma Sumac in this alt-cabaret star whose phenomenal four-octave range conveys everything from dark and delusional Alice in Wonderland mushroom fantasies to face-in-the-sidewalk security-state concerns... a siren song to lost cosmopolitans everywhere. Dark, funny, and cosmically aligned."
- Richard Gehr, The Village Voice
Carol Lipnik is a wonderful amalgam of Joni Mitchell, Lotte Lenya, Theda Bara, Yma Sumac and Stevie Nicks but totally original." Michael Musto, Out Magazine
Carol Lipniks voice is a thing of wonder, soaring across four octaves with remarkable fluidity, gently cradling listeners in its sublimely sustained tone. Hailed by the New York Times as an ethereal vocal phenomenon, Carol returns from the metaphorical crossroads with a new show of theatrical art songs of the feral natural world written this past Summer, from the perch of a 125 year old stone tower, in the foothills of the Adirondacks. These luminous songs have an aura of prophecy and the power to wound and heal.
A poet of beauty, decay and desolation, Carol sets her lyrics in spare, harmonically rich soundscapes created in collaboration with pianist Matt Kanelos. Mythical imagerythe moon, crows, wolves, boats and journeysevoke the eternal world of nature and hint at some past or future devastation. Throughout the dreamlike landscapes run subtle, sly allusions to the perils and possibilities of contemporary life, encouraging us to mourn, be comforted, and reach for another ecstatic moment of joy.
Carol Lipnik is sui generis, but her rapturous songs and theatrical performances have an unusually broad appeal across genres and demographics.
Carol Lipnik and Matt Kanelos have enjoyed an unprecedented three year run as the artists in residence at Pangea.

Downtown's intimate supper-club Pangea is the ultimate in alt, playing home to some of the best in alt cabaret. The New York Times recently called it a bohemian oasis not unlike the fabled Max's Kansas City from days gone by."
