Queens Homebrewer (to Pro) Tour
Despite New York's gnat-size apartments, NYC homebrewers refuse to let space limitations detract them from their mission: crafting some of the city's tastiest beer. On this tour, you'll meet three of the city's finest amateur (and pro!) brewers, who will display their set-ups, discuss their craft and, most importantly, open up their stash of superlative beer.
Today's tour is going to be super-special. We're going to start and stay in Astoria, Queens, at the home of Matt Schaefer, the author of The Illustrated Guide to Brewing Beer: A Comprehensive Handboook of Beginning Home Brewing. He has been brewing for nearly two decades and makes bonkers-good beer.
Next, we're headed down the road to meet Alex Merahn, a member of the Brewstoria club who will be serving a brown ale, ESB and an IPA made especially for you. You'll love 'em.
Lastly, were going to stroll around the corner to visit Rich Buceta's brand-new, fully licensed production brewery, SingleCut. You'll get a private tour and plenty of his brews. Note: This tour does cost $15 more. But here's the good news: You'll either receive a one-liter SingleCut growler filled with your beer of choice (a $15 value) or, if you bring your own growler, a full fill (also a $15 value). We're here to support Rich in his new business. And drink lots of his delicious beer!
Eat a big lunch. Your guide is NYC beer journalist and Brewed Awakening author Joshua M. Bernstein.
