Tosca MET 2017-18
Emmanuel Villaume will conduct the Mets new production of Puccinis Tosca,replacing James Levine. The new staging of Puccinis dramatic tragedy, directed by Sir David McVicar stars Sonya Yoncheva and Vittorio Grigolo as the heroine Tosca and her lover Cavaradossi, with Bryn Terfel as the villainous Scarpia.
Rivaling the splendor of Franco Zeffirellis set and costumes of the Napoleonic era, Sir David McVicars ravishing new production offers a splendid backdrop for two extraordinary sopranos sharing the title role of the jealous prima donna: Sonya Yoncheva and Anna Netrebko. Vittorio Grigolo and Marcelo Álvarez alternate in the role of Toscas revolutionary artist lover Cavaradossi, with Bryn Terfel, Michael Volle, and eljko Lui as the depraved police chief Scarpia.
