Artists Online Workshop

ARTISTS ONLINE: how to build your web presence

These are three basic workshops designed to help artists start to build their online presence. If you get lost on Facebook, if you've been resisting Twitter, if you're sending out "come see my show" emails by manually selecting contacts from your address book, if your artistic work does not turn up in a Google search, this workshop is for you. Using free tools that don't require you to know any HTML code, you can join the online conversation and stake out your own professional corner of the Internet.

Pricing $65/session. $115 for two or $165 for all three.

Day One: Your Mailing List. Saturday, January 19 at 10AM-1PM.
This first session will cover contact list management in Gmail, and best practices for telling your friends about your work via person-to-person email. We'll spend the bulk of our time exploring the free MailChimp newsletter service and design dashboard for creating professional and stylish email newsletters.

Day Two: Social Media. Saturday, January 26 at 10AM-1PM.
In our second session, we'll explore the fast-paced world of social media. Starting with the basics of your individual Facebook account, this session will also cover how to use Facebook as a company Page, how to create Events, and how to participate in Groups. Then we'll finally answer the questions "why should I create a Twitter account?" and "how the heck does this thing work?"

Day Three: Your Personal Website. Saturday, February 2 at 10AM-1PM.
The final session of Artists Online will guide participants through the initial set-up of a free WordPress site, including registration, basic site structure, and a tour of the WordPress dashboard of design tools.

Workshop participants must bring a laptop (PC or Mac) that can access wireless internet.

All workshops will take place at EXIT Theatre: 156 Eddy Street, San Francisco.
Space is limited to 15 students per session.
