Africa: Spirit and Sound
This holiday season, Ujima Company and Healing Hands Productions team up to present the musical journey, Africa: Sprit and Sound. The production takes us into the internal religious and spiritual music of Africans on the continent and in the Diasporas. Although the religious major themes are of Judaeo, Christian origin, the distinct "African Expression" is the common thread of continuity in all versions of our spiritual walk. Giving full heart and soul in worship and praise is evident no matter where you find us. We are full of life and light when we are reminded of the presence and power of the almighty.
Using music, dance and spoken word, our journey through Africa eyes and ears, takes us to the pinnacle of earthly reality. The chief musicians bring their indigenous forms of praise to the stage. The singers, dancers, players of instruments and poets bring traditional messages from countries of South Sudan, Congo (Kinshasha & Brazzaville), Jamaica, the United States and second-generation Nigeria and Senegal. This show brings a "United Nations" of Africans to Buffalo, NY. Historically the challenges, victories and losses of all our ancestors have been recorded in our spiritual DNA. We, the living representatives of our creators and our ancestors, share with you our cultural and spiritual history.
Additional guest artists include: Jimmy Smith, LaDi NaFi, Zaimah, South Sudanese Choir, Devoted 2 Dance, Aminata Mitchell, Lila Sylla, Raphel IIongo, John Victor Barefogok, Reginald Holloway, Darlin Ngoma- Healing Hands members Ras Jomo, Jamil Adewale Kasumu & Cechon Stepp
