Inspired by the long-running Seattle Silent Reading Party, creators Amanda Morgan & Karen Munro decided to create this event in 2015 for Portlanders to join with fellow readers each month in a new location to read silently in good company. With a cocktail and delicious food of course! Join them at The Side Yard Farm on June 28th for a summer evening with special guests Pearl Soda Company, Pastry Chef Anna Henricks of Sweetheart St. Johns and Chef Kusuma Rao of Ruchikala. Bring a picnic blanket, a good book and come hungry. Your ticket includes a sweet treat from Sweetheart St. Johns, food by Ruchikala and a beverage from Pearl Soda Company.

Karen Munro is a reader, writer, and librarian. Lately she's trying to read more women, more people of color, more books that dont come easily. Karen has an MFA from the Iowa Writers Workshop and an MLIS from the University of British Columbia. She keeps track of her readings on Goodreads, and her writings on her blog. Sometimes she tweets things here. Two cats, one dog. Always chocolate, never lemon. If she can bike there, she will.
Amanda Morgan is a lover, not a fighter. Her long-suffering parents used to pry books out of her hands and force her to go outside. Now she just takes the books outside with her. Amanda has a MA from the Bard Graduate Center in History of Design, and an M. Arch. from the University of Oregon. She is an adjunct professor at PSU and PNCA, and works at an architecture firm, focusing on affordable housing.

She lives in Portland, OR with her husband, Joe Vanaman, who heads the pickle department at Olympia Provisions.
KUSUMA RAO OF RUCHIKALA
Bred by traditional Indian cuisine, romanced by Sonoran Mexican street food and professionally blurring the lines of all-that and in-between. Growing up in her mothers kitchen in Tucson, AZ Kusuma began cooking at a very young age experimenting with spices from all over the world. Through her culinary career she has honed her techniques to create inspiring dishes for her clients. Utterly obsessed with perfection, she strives to create works of art on every plate. She has worked as a restaurant consultant and menu developer and writes and ponders passionately about food wherever she goes.
