THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, one of William Shakespeare's comedies is believed to have been written between 1590 and 1592. The main plot depicts the courtship of Petruchio and Katherine, the headstrong shrew. Initially, Katherine is an unwilling participant in the relationship, but Petruchio attempts to temper and "Tame" her with various tactics and torments, this along with Katherine's continued resistance, and her sister, Bianca's, various suitors vying for her love, all combine to create this Shakespearean comedy. THE TAMING OF THE SHREW has been adapted numerous times for stage, screen, opera, ballet, and as a Broadway musical, KISS ME KATE.
