Making History
In Making History, powerful historical forces determine the destinies of Hugh ONeill, the Earl of Tyrone and Red Hugh ODonnell before and after the battle of Kinsale. Although a love match, ONeills personal life is complicated by his marriage to an English wife, Mabel Bagenal, the daughter of his enemy. ONeill forges an Irish and Spanish alliance to drive the English out of Ireland while Peter Lombard, Archbishop of Armagh, is raising questions while writing a history of ONeills life. Is history true? Should it be? The play is certainly relevant to our times, as history continues to be written and interpreted by the winners and those who twist the facts to suit their own needs.
