Water by the Spoonful at UW Tacoma
"WATER BY THE SPOONFUL" by Quiara Alegría Hudes to be performed at University of Washington, Tacoma
Tacoma, WA., April 18, 2017:
Winner of the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the beautiful centerpiece of Quiara Alegría Hudes' Puerto Rican family war trilogy, "Water by the Spoonful", will be performed in the Broadcast Studio Theatre, 007 Cherry Parkes, at 1918 Pacific Avenue, Tacoma, on May 5, 6, 11, 12, 13 at 7:30pm.
Directed by Marilyn Bennett, Founding Artistic Director of Toy Boat Theatre and adjunct faculty at UWT, "Water by the Spoonful" tells story of a young, Puerto Rican Iraq War veteran seeking his place in society after his traumatic and haunting experience in Iraq. The trilogy was inspired by the experiences of the playwright's cousin, uncle, aunt and grandfather, three generations of American veterans who served in Iraq, Vietnam, and WW II respectively. This play follows Elliot Ortiz, his mother and cousin as he navigates his civilian life after being severely wounded in Iraq. It is a poignant, at times stark, but ultimately healing story of a community of people bound by pain but released by reaching out to one another.
Recommended for audiences teen through adult; contains adult language and themes
