Austrian Wine Dinner
Dirt Candy has always had a crazy wine list, and on Thursday, May 18, we're taking diners on the ultimate wine safari! Action! Adventure! Excitement! Romance!
We've always served off-beat varietals from small producers and hidden vineyards, and some of our favorites have been from Austria. So for this dinner we're serving six courses paired with some of the most unusual Austrian wines we've ever had, and to make it even more fun we'll have representatives here from three of our favorite wineries.
BERNHARD STADLMANN - of Stadlmann winery, he's the original old school winemaker, using methods that have been in his family for centuries. Stadlmann is certified organic, and Bernhard is an 8th generation winemaker who's been working the same land his family has been harvesting since 1780!
BERNHARD MORITZ - is representing the Fritsch winery. It's certified organic, and all their wines are biodynamic. They adhere to the teachings of Rudolph Steiner, the father of biodynamic farming. Their wines are amazing and Bernhard Moritz is the founder's right-hand man.
LARS PETZ - is representing the Forstreiter winery (founded in 1868). Located on the banks of the Danube, some of their vineyards date back to 1364. They follow sustainable agricultural practices and are so famous for their Grüner Veltliners the German press has dubbed them the "Pope of Grüner Veltliner."
All three of these guys will be in the house to introduce their wines to you, answer your questions, and explain why the best wines out of Austria are the ones made the old fashioned way.
Tickets are $140/person, for the six-course dinner and wine pairing (tip is included in the price, tax is not).
So come on down and taste the magic that is Austria's amazing sustainably farmed, small batch, organic, natural, and biodynamic wines.
