Celebrate the 175th anniversary of the Amistad Africans' return to Africa.
Discovering Amistad and New London Maritime Society invite the public to a sail aboard the historic Amistad at Amistad Pier, New London's Waterfront Park.
While enjoying a 3-hour sail, you will learn the history of New London's role in the capture, and ultimate release, of the Mende people of Sierra Leone and their long-fought struggle for freedom. A continuing story of freedom today will be part of the educational program.
Sails will take place Saturdays and Sundays on May 7, 8, 13, 14, 20 (sold out charter sail), 21, and 27, 28, from 12 noon to 3 PM.
