5 BROKEN CAMERAS
Winner at the Sundance Film Festival, this deeply personal film gives a first-hand account of the non-violent resistance in Bil'in, a West Bank village threatened by encroaching Israeli settlements. Shot almost entirely by Palestinian farmer Emad Burnat beginning with his first camera that he bought in 2005 to record the birth of his youngest son. Four more cameras were bought and then destroyed violently by Israeli soldiers. We watch and feel the anguish with Burnat as olive trees are bulldozed, peaceful protesters attacked and innocent lives lost. An Israeli filmmaker, Guy Davidi collaborated with him to edit the footage into this powerful film.
