Teachers Eating Pizza: A Closer Look at Jupiter
On the first Wednesday of each month, the Fleet Science Center hosts The Sky Tonight, an Astronomer-led planetarium show in the Fleet's IMAX Theater.
Teachers are invited to eat pizza, converse with colleagues, learn curriculum-ready interdisciplinary content related to the month's topic and attend the 7 p.m. The Sky Tonight Astronomer-led planetarium show.
On May 3, we will focus on the planet Jupiter!
After the planetarium show, all are invited to look through telescopes right outside of the Fleet during Stars in the Park, a concurrent program run by the San Diego Astronomy Association.
What does this event include?
- Pizza!
- An interdisciplinary astronomy workshop
- The opportunity to network with area teachers
- The Sky Tonight Planetarium Show (a $16.95 value)
- Access to Stars in the Park, a program run by a local astronomy club
What is the schedule for the evening?
- 4:45 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.: Check in
- 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.: Pizza and Teacher workshop
- 6:30 p.m. - 6:50 p.m.: Break
- 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.: The Sky Tonight Planetarium Show
- 8:00 p.m.: Optional Stars in the Park with the San Diego Astronomers Association
What grade are the lessons designed for?
Astronomy is for everyone! However, the workshop portion of the evening is most applicable to K-5 teachers. Questions about the workshop content? Please contact us!
Can I register more than one teacher?
This program has limited capacity. We request that each teacher register individually. Thank you for your understanding.
What if I want to bring family or friends?
Family and friends are welcome to purchase tickets to The Sky Tonight's 7 p.m. show. You may join your party in the Theater lobby at the conclusion of the teacher workshop at 6:30 p.m. Due to space limitations, we ask that only teachers register for this event. All other attendees should register through the Fleet Science Center's website.
