Workshop with Ann-Bernice Thomas
Improve your spoken word poetry writing and performance in a workshop series presented by the Victoria Poetry Project!
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP LEADER: Ann-Bernice Thomas was the 2016 Youth Poet Laureate of Victoria, BC. She has been writing all of her life, but was pushed into slam poetry in 2014 and hasnt stopped since. In her lively 20 years, she has lived in England, Jamaica, Aurora (GTA), and is now residing in Victoria as she completes her double major in Theatre and Creative Writing at UVic.
Ann-Bernice uses her poetry to explore themes of race, feminism, immigration, family, and the bittersweet gift of inheritance. She uses her voice to rally social change, awareness, and foster the telling of the stories that need to be told.
Amongst other things Ann-Bernice has delivered a TEDx Talk discussing the damaging effects of the Oreo Category (2017), performed at Victorias Ferguson Rally (2014), and The Scotiabank Aids Walk for Life (2015).
She is currently working on her poetry comic book, set to release Summer 2018, and a one woman show set to open in May 2017. Check her out at www.wildwomanpoetry.com
