Opera Maine (formerly PORTopera) presents AN AMERICAN DREAM by Jack Parla
DEERTREES THEATRE was originally built in 1936 as a marvelous opera house constructed on the site of an old deer run in the forest above the village of Harrison, Maine. Constructed of rose hemlock in the Adirondack Style and is still considered one of the most acoustically perfect theatres outside New York.
Once again DEERTREES is excited to have opera returning to the theatre this summer for our 81st Season. Thursday, July 13th, promises to be a night we will all remember for a very long time!! Doors open at 7:00 PM.
Opera Maine's (formerly PORTopera) Young Artists tackle a truly American new opera, AN AMERICAN DREAM by Jack Parla. Set in 1942 the opera explores the lives of two women: a Japanese American facing internment and a German Jewish immigrant preoccupied by those she left behind.
In 2015 AN AMERICAN DREAM had its World Premiere by Seattle Opera and was inspired by real life stories from the Pacific Northwest.
