UN-WEDGED 2012
UN-WEDGED at Pottery Northwest Wows with 3rd Year of Exceptional Contemporary Ceramics

Exhibition runs November 3  30, 2012
RECEPTION:  Saturday, November 3, 6 pm

UN-WEDGED 2012, an exhibition of exceptional contemporary work from 20 artists from all over North America opens November 3, 2012 at Pottery Northwest (at 226 First Avenue North (between Thomas and John), just one block south of the Key Arena at the Seattle Center). Applicants submitted both functional and sculptural ceramic work as well as mixed media. The show will continue through November 30, 2012.  An Opening Reception will be held on Saturday, November 3, at 6 pm.

The 2012 UN-WEDGED juror is Steven Young Lee, Resident Artist Director at the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts. As juror for the competition and show, Lee sifted through a large pool of submissions to a produce a group that reflects the show's criteria of "exceptional work both in concept and execution." At the same time, he puts his own personal stamp on the interpretation of exceptional by selecting the recipient of the Juror's Choice Award. This year, the Juror's Choice Award of one thousand dollars goes to Mallory Wetherell of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for her piece Picture Perfect Union. "This is a good representation of the variety of work being done in the field. There are some really fine pots as well as sculptural work in a solid pool of applicants" said Lee..

A second Director's Choice prize of five hundred dollars (selected by Wally Bivins, Pottery Northwest's director) will be awarded to Kim Louise Glidden for her piece Cradle to Grave. According to Bivins, "It is important for artists and patrons to see work in person from other parts of the country, and there are some fine Seattle area artists represented in the show too. UN-WEDGED is an effort, to make new work, exciting work, available to the public, wherever it is made."
