From Anton Chekhovs The Cherry Orchard
// Oh my childhood, my innocent childhood // Happiness awoke with me every morning
it was just like this nothing has changed
All, all white //
After the dark, dismal autumn and cold, cold winter
you are young again full of happiness
the angels of heaven have not abandoned you //
Oh, if only I could free my neck and shoulders from the stone that weighs them down If only I could forget my past.

Ten (10) lines of any text, in any language.

About the Training:
SUZUKI METHOD
Developed by internationally acclaimed director, Tadashi Suzuki and the Suzuki Company of Toga, the Suzuki Actor Training Method's principal concern is with restoring the wholeness of the human body to the theatrical context and uncovering the actor's innate expressive abilities. A rigorous physical discipline drawn from such diverse influences as ballet, traditional Japanese and Greek theater and martial arts, the training seeks to heighten the actor's emotional and physical power and commitment to each moment on the stage. Attention is on the lower body and a vocabulary of footwork, sharpening the actor's breath control and concentration.
VIEWPOINTS
The Viewpoints is a technique of improvisation that grew out of the post-modern dance world. It was first articulated by choreographer Mary Overlie who broke down the two dominant issues performers deal with time and space into six categories. She called her approach the Six Viewpoints. Since that time, Artistic Director Anne Bogart and SITI Company have expanded her notions and adapted them for actors. The Viewpoints allows a group of actors to function together spontaneously and intuitively and to generate bold, theatrical work quickly. It develops flexibility, articulation, and strength in movement and makes ensemble playing really possible.

Kelly Maurer (Actor)
Kelly has been a member of SITI since its inception. SITI credits include Orestes, American Document, Radio Macbeth, La Dispute, Hayfever, bobrauschenbergamerica, The Medium, Small Lives/Big Dreams, A Midsummer Nights Dream, Culture of Desire and Cabin Pressure, and theatres including The Joyce, NYTW, P.S. 122, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Walker Arts Center, Wexner Arts Center, The Irish Life Theater Festival, Under the Radar (NYCs Public Theater), Bobigny (Paris) and the Edinburgh Festival. Regional credits include Rainbow in And What of the Night at The Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, Hamlet at StageWest and Christine in Miss Julie at Actors Theatre of Louisville. Internationally, she has toured with Tadashi Suzuki in the Suzuki Company of Togas Dionysus and director Robert Wilson in Persephone. She performed the roles of Jolly (as standby for Patti LuPone) in The Old Neighborhood on Broadway and Hermia in Dead Man Cell Phone at Playwrights Horizons. She also performed in An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein and The Water Engine at the Atlantic. Kelly teaches with SITI and the Atlantic Theater Acting School, at NYU and workshops and universities throughout the U.S.

About SITI Company:
SITI Company is an ensemble-based theater company whose three ongoing components are the creation of new work, the training of young theater artists, and a commitment to international collaboration.

SITI was founded in 1992 by Anne Bogart and Tadashi Suzuki to redefine and revitalize contemporary theater in the United States through an emphasis on international cultural exchange and collaboration. Originally envisioned as a summer institute in Saratoga Springs, New York, SITI has expanded to encompass a year-round program based in New York City with a summer season in Saratoga. SITI believes that contemporary American theater must necessarily incorporate artists from around the world and learn from the resulting cross-cultural exchange of dance, music, art, and performance experiences.

It is through the dialogue between Suzuki and Viewpoints, these two very distinct, yet complementary approaches that the philosophy and technique of SITI Company is continually explored, revitalized, and articulated. The Viewpoints and the Suzuki Method of Actor Training are two distinct methods of actor training used in building and staging SITI productions. SITI Company members have been trained by Anne Bogart and Tadashi Suzuki and are uniquely qualified to introduce and train other theater artists in these challenging and innovative methods. More information, go to: www.siti.org

One of the most important aspects of SITI's work is the teaching of their training techniques, to actors and theater artists throughout the United States and the world.  In addition to the workshops, SITI members are on the faculties of such institutions as The Juilliard School, New York University, and Columbia University.
