RAGTIME - Brooklyn Players Community Musical Theater
Brooklyn Players Community Musical Theater (BPCMT) is proud to present RAGTIME, one of our most stirring American musicals.  The racial and cultural melting pot of the United States in 1906 identified by a new music called Ragtime reveals a timultuous time where immigration and racial differences became catalysts for drama.  Beautiful music and fabulous writing bring both fictional and actual characters of the time together to tell the story of human conflicts as  relevant today as they were then.
Based on the 1975 novel by E. L. Doctorow, with music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and book by Terence McNally, RAGTIME tells the story of three groups in the United States in the early 20th century: African Americans, represented by Coalhouse Walker Jr., a Harlem musician; upper-class suburbanites, represented by Mother, the matriarch of a white upper-class family in New Rochelle, New York; and Eastern European immigrants, represented by Tateh, a Jewish immigrant from Latvia.
Historical figures including Harry Houdini, Evelyn Nesbit, Booker T. Washington, J. P. Morgan, Henry Ford, Stanford White, Harry Kendall Thaw, Admiral Peary, Matthew Henson, and Emma Goldman are also part of these characters' stories.
