Raising Hogs Workshop

Peter Burrows of Vermont based Brown Boar Farm successfully grew from scratch a business raising pastured pork with his family. Their premium pork products have won awards and are sold direct to consumers and fine restaurants. Peter will talk about raising pigs with respect. Class will cover some breeds, methodology and care of the sow & piglets through market weight including, shelter, pens/space considerations, handling, health, feeding, processing and product options. There will be plenty of opportunity for questions too.

Speaker Biography Peter Burrows, although relatively new to farming, created Brown Boar Farm in 2007 after a successful career in Information Technology. Brown Boar farm has become recognized as one of the Industry leaders in producing all natural, pastured raised pork without the use of non-therapeutic antibiotics or GMO feeds. Peter was a delegate to the first Slow Meat Symposium in 2015, a delegate to the national Pork Forum in 2016 and 2017, and is currently chair of the Northeast Pork Association. Peter splits his time between Vermont and a home in Marshfield.

DIRECTIONS: Workshop begins inside the Administration Building at the Marshfield Fairgrounds. This is a small cape on the grounds in the southwest corner along Main St. (Route 3A) & South River street. Gate will be open in front of building.

From the West: Take 95 south to 93 north to 3 south, exit 12. Turn right at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4th set of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
From the North: Take 93 south to Rt. 3 south exit 12. Turn right at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4th set of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
From the Providence Area: Take 95 north to 93 north to 3 south, exit 12. Turn right at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4th set of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
From The Worcester Area: Take 90 east/Mass Pike to 95 south to 93 north to 3 south, exit 12. Turn right at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4th set of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
From the Taunton Area: Take 44 east to 3 north, exit 12 turn left at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4thset of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
