Mushroom Gardening Workshop
This is one of five backyard grower workshops being offered. Additional information is on the website for All 5 Workshops, all can be found on Brown Paper Ticket. Subjects are: Growing and Grafting Grapes register for grape workshop Pruning Blueberries register for blueberry pruning workshop Seed starting to Transplant register for Seed starting to transplant workshop Raising Hogs register for Raising Hogs workshop Mushroom Gardening register for mushroom gardening Additional information is on the website for All 5 Workshops Mushroom Gardening This 3 hour course begins with a classroom session followed by outdoor hands-on workshop. This course teaches the techniques necessary to grow edible mushrooms in your landscape, whether it be a vegetable garden, perennial orchard or forest. We will discuss and demonstrate a number of low-tech growing methods including totem stacks which fruit in just 6-12 months for Lions Mane and 3 months for Oysters, Shitake log cultivation, and wine cap companion planting. By learning these simple techniques participants will be able to cultivate a wide variety of gourmet and medicinal species. Each participant may take home one Shitake Log. Additionally, there may be extra logs/totems or other materials available for purchase at the event.
Educator Bio: Dan Bensonoff is a devoted foodie, farmer, and educator. He began his mycelial adventures as a child when he would go foraging with his grandparents in the woodlands of CT. Through his interest in ecology and local food production, he became attuned to the virtues of mushroom cultivation. Currently Dan lives in Roslindale and works as education events coordinator and policy director with the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA/Mass).
DIRECTIONS: Workshop begins inside the Administration Building at the Marshfield Fairgrounds. This is a small cape on the grounds in the southwest corner along Main St. (Route 3A) & South River street. Gate will be open in front of building.

From the West: Take 95 south to 93 north to 3 south, exit 12. Turn right at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4th set of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
From the North: Take 93 south to Rt. 3 south exit 12. Turn right at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4th set of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
From the Providence Area: Take 95 north to 93 north to 3 south, exit 12. Turn right at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4th set of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
From The Worcester Area: Take 90 east/Mass Pike to 95 south to 93 north to 3 south, exit 12. Turn right at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4th set of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
From the Taunton Area: Take 44 east to 3 north, exit 12 turn left at the lights (east on Rt.139), at the 4thset of lights, 2.7 miles, turn left onto Rt. 3A north. The Marshfield Fairgrounds is one block up on the right.
