Workshop Description:
These days, it's easy to create and share videos. With social media and free video streaming sites, we can share our stories, opinions, and voices with more people than ever before.
Sadly, there are many videos on the internet that are so poorly made that they're practically unwatchable. How you shoot a video, set up your shots, and record sound can make a huge difference to the quality of your finished product. What considerations and skills will make your video the best it can be?
This workshop will focus on helping participants build skills for shooting in the field. We will discuss how to set up shots (framing and composition), how to use motion in a shot, how to cover an event, how to shoot in challenging weather, basics for conducting interviews, how to set up microphones, and best practices for field audio recording. We will also address how to maximize the quality of the videos you produce as a citizen journalist, including tips for shooting with a smartphone, how to shoot without a crew, and how to shoot without a tripod.
This workshop will be interactive, with opportunities to practice setting up and using interview equipment. Participants are highly encouraged to ask questions about your projects to our expert presenter.
Food will be provided.
