Mountain Foraging Day Trip
What a better way to spend a Friday digging up roots and looking at flowers! We'll be taking an in depth look at key medicinal species found east of the mountains while learning and practicing sustainable harvesting,
Some of the plants we'll be likely to encounter on this trip are: Pedicularis, balsam root, uva-ursi, pipsissewa, mullein, potentilla, red root, arnica, and huckleberry. Actual plants will depend on the whims of Nature at that date, of course.
Throughout the day we'll visit several different sites, and spend some time making medicine in the field (arnica oil, red root tincture, etc).
This workshop is a collaboration between Natalie H. of The Adiantum School and Diana Law of The Dianaverse school of Herbal Shamanism. This trip is appropriate for beginner to intermediate herb students who are interested in gaining the confidence to go out foraging on their own. Advanced herb students who havent spent a lot of time east of the mountains will also learn quite a lot.
Be prepared to scamper across the mountain terrains, dress appropriately for changeable weather and bring a lunch and water to stay hydrated. There are ticks as we approach the border of eastern WA, so be prepared. Supplies to bring with include: a few jars for your concoctions, alcohol for tincturing, honey, vinegar, clippers and/or scissors, bags (paper, cloth and/or mesh are best), digging fork if you have one, and any thing else you like for foraging. Notebook highly encouraged to take notes. We'll meet on Mercer Island at the Park and Ride to carpool. Expect to spend the whole glorious day out in Nature. Event is rain or shine.
Location: Meet at the Mercer Island Park and Ride. From there we'll head over the pass to highway 97! Well be north of Cle Elum.
