WE SHALL OVERCOME

The Memphis Black Arts Alliance begins 2017 with a tribute to some of our very own History Makers in two moving performances of the celebrated Musical Production, WE SHALL OVERCOME at the Buckman Performing Arts Center, 60 Perkins Ext., Memphis, TN 38116, Friday, February 10th and Saturday, February 11th beginning at 7pm.

WE SHALL OVERCOME is a lively, entertaining presentation that follows a classroom of modern youth whisked away back in time to experience the many history making events that occurred in the South during the Civil Rights Movement. They experience Sit-ins with Robert J. Booker, SNCC meetings with Guy Carawan, Protests with Avon W. Rollins, Sr., Marches with Rev. Harold A. Middlebrook, Radical Activism with the Invaders, and Change our schools with the Clinton 12!

We Shall Overcome is comprised of a 25+ member multi-cultural/generational cast, starring Award Winning Stage Performer from Morristown, TN, Christopher Frith, along with our very own Gospel Music Sensation Deborah Thomas, Memphis #1 Hip Hop Artist, Cbeyohn, local favorite recording artist Julia Struthers, and all the way from New York City, Rev. Dwight Hollis in the role of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The production is directed by LarJuanette Williams, Choreographed by Kellye Crawford, and Music Direction by Ashley K. Davis! The show reaches audiences of every age and every ethnicity and demonstrates that the success of the Civil Rights Movement was only possible due to the many persons of differing ethnic backgrounds unifying for this causeOur Freedom.
