Sleeping Beauty -SATURDAY EVENING -with Ballet Workshop
Prepare to be dazzled by Port Angeles own BALLET WORKSHOP, in their extravagant staging of the timeless classic, The Sleeping Beauty, based on the Imperial Russian Ballets original production in St. Petersburg in 1890. Princess Aurora is cursed by an evil fairy to prick her finger on a spindle at her sixteenth-birthday and falls asleep for 100 years, only to be awoken by the first kiss of true love. A century later, a far-away Prince is given the vision of a hidden kingdom and a trapped sleeping Princess, and sets out to conquer the spell, awakening Aurora with true loves first kiss. The royal family awakens, and the couple is given a lavish wedding celebration. Iconic storybook characters join the wedding party, including Puss-in-Boots, Red Riding Hood, and Cinderella, making this romantic fairytale a crowd-pleaser for all ages.
The Sleeping Beauty is the most beloved work by choreographer Marius Petipa, considered the master of classical ballet in the 19th century.
