ABOUT THE JUSTIN CARR WANTS WORLD PEACE FOUNDATION (JCWWP)
The Justin Carr Wants World Peace Foundation (JCWWP) was established in memory of popular Harvard-Westlake athletic and academic standout, Justin Carr, who died from an undetected heart condition, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), in 2013 at sixteen, while at his swim team practice (as covered in an Emmy-winning news story on CBS2). The Justin Carr Wants World Peace Foundation (JCWWP) is so named because of a prayer for peace Justin said since he was four.  The Benefit not only helps the Foundation with its ongoing HCM awareness campaign but supports programs focused on at-risk/underserved students. These programs include:

-JCWWP Enrichment Scholarships for 7th - 12th grade students in visual & performing arts
-JCWWP Dare 2 Dream Arts & Tutoring Program (incl. a partnership w/Frank Parent Elementary)

The programs were created by JCWWP in homage to Justin, who was a selfless earth angel and young renaissance man, who was not only a scholar but a singer, actor, artist, Junior Olympic butterfly swimmer and supporter of the underdog. In fact, he was given in memoriam the "Most Inspirational" Student at Harvard-Westlake's 2014 graduation, and he was the subject for over 100 of his Class of 2014 schoolmates' college essays. For more please see the Emmy winning-CBS2 News segment on Justin's story (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tm1Mi1mzr6I).

ABOUT HOLMAN UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
Led by renowned Senior Pastor, Kelvin Sauls, Holman UMC continues its catalytic and history-making role in peacebuilding and nonviolence advocacy.  Its hallmark in this arena is not only evident by its ground-breaking programs, but a monthly workshop held by Holman's Pastor Emeritus and civil rights legend, Rev. James Lawson, who worked with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In fact, during the tenure of Holman UMCs first permanent pastor, Rev. Lanneau L. White, Holman UMC was one of only two LA churches Dr. King spoke at weeks before his death in April 1968.  Today, Rev. Sauls--born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa--fosters a passion for congregational vitalization for community transformation, as well as being a bridge-builder for cross-cultural and multi-ethnic congregational development in racially diverse communities.
