The Nutcracker Ballet
NUTCRACKER SYNOPSIS
The Stahlbaum family is giving a Christmas Party. Clara's godfather and uncle Drosselmeyer brings a special gift for his favorite niece - a wooden nutcracker. In a jealous fit, Fritz breaks it, but Uncle Drosselmeyer quickly repairs it.
The party ends and the Nutcracker is placed under the Christmas tree. Clara sneaks out to the living room to retrieve the special gift and falls asleep on the couch. She awakens a short time later to find herself in the midst of little mice, but when the clock strikes midnight the room begins to transform, filling with rats and life-size toy soldiers, led by her valiant Nutcracker, come to her rescue. The King Rat attacks the Nutcracker, but Clara hits him with her shoe and the Nutcracker wins the battle. After the battle, the Nutcracker is transformed into a handsome prince.
Drosselmeyer turns the Stahlbaum's house into the Land of Snow where the Snow Queen greets Clara and the Nutcracker Prince and calls forth an enchanted sleigh to take them to the Kingdom of Sweets while snowflakes begin dancing.
In the Kingdom of Sweets, the Angels herald the arrival of the Nutcracker Prince and the Sugar Plum Fairy calls forth his subjects to perform for Clara. After the Sugar Plum Fairy dances with her Cavalier she calls forth the Prince's subjects once more to perform. In the excitement Clara loses sight of her Prince and the scene changes back to her living room. Drosselmeyer appears with the Nutcracker Doll and leads Clara to the couch to sleep, then fades away into the clock. Soon, Clara rises and wonders: Was it a dream or a reality?
