The History of Future Folk
What do extraterrestrial invaders and twangy musical instruments have in common? This hysterical and bizarre sci-fi comedy draws that connection. When an intergalactic visitor, General Trius (a.k.a. Bill), arrives on Earth, he is seduced by the alluring power and beauty of music, an art form that doesn?t exist on his native planet, Hondo. Despite Hondo being endangered by an impending meteor attack, Bill abandons his plan to appropriate Earth in favor of learning to play banjo and acquiring a human spouse. But by befriending the enemy, Bill is risking his livelihood as well as the fates of Earth and Hondo. Documenting the fictionalized origin of real-life New York folk duo, Future Folk, this film masterfully blends a sarcastic storyline with sincere characters that evoke comparisons to music/comedy groups like Tenacious D and Flight of the Concords.
