NWAC Motorized Avalanche Education @ The Last Resort

The Northwest Avalanche Center and The Last Resort in Ronald, WA are offering a series of one-day avalanche awareness courses specifically for motorized backcountry travelers.

This course is free to current NWAC members; $40 for without membership. Contact jeff@nwac.us for a code, available to any current member.

This 8-hour course includes:

A 4-hour classroom session using video, power-point presentations, and small group activities to help participants learn about avalanche danger and how to avoid it.

A 4-hour field session on companion rescue skills including transceiver use, probing strategies, and effective shoveling techniques. Snowmobiles create a different dynamic in an avalanche rescue, suggesting a few changes from a traditional ski based rescue procedures.

The classroom portion will be held indoors at The Last Resort in Ronald, WA. The field portion will be outside in a location nearby. Please be prepared for the weather in both venues.

Participants will need to provide their own avalanche rescue equipment, including avalanche transceiver (digital prefered), collapsible avalanche probe and metal avalanche shovel. Snowmobiles are not required, and will only be used by the instructor for demonstration purposes.
