Hard Bard: Cardenio
GreenStage's 2012 "Hard Bard" production is Cardenio, by Shakespeare (with a little help from his friends... his dead friends.) Directed by Tony Driscoll.
It's a very grave love story.
A Tyrant's cold blooded scheme to attain love is stalled when the Lady he longs for makes a grave attempt to escape his lustful desires.
Gruesome and absurd acts of revenge, murder, suicide, lust, grave robbing, and necrophilia, make this romantic tragedy a Hard Bard experience you will never forget.
Scholars continue to debate whether Cardenio is the work of Shakespeare (and John Fletcher) or Thomas Middleton, but one thing is certain: THERE WILL BE BLOOD.
CAST Tyrant: Aaron Allshouse Leonella: Meredith Armstrong Bellarius: Geb Brown Anselmus: Anthony Duckett Govianus (Cardenio): Matthew Gilbert Blood wench: Julia Griffin Memphonius: William Li Votarius: Tyler Lockwood Musician/ensemble: Mark McQuinn Wife: Amelia Meckler Helvetius: Michael Ramquist Sophonirus: Eli Simons Lady: Nicole Vernon
-------------- WARNING: Contains material that some people may find objectionable. Probably not appropriate for children, but hey, they're your kids. There will be blood; the front row (at least) is a splash zone. Don't say we didn't warn you.
