The Murphy Beds with Dana Lyn and Kyle Sanna: Double Bill
What a night this promises to be!  Seriously.  Jefferson Hamer and Eamonn O'Leary have been singing together for quite a number of year.  Very hard to get to voices to blend together as seamlessly as these guys do!  And the guitar bouzouki mandolin combinations and accompaniments!  Well, par excellence harkening back to the Paul Brady/Andy Irvine hey days.  The Murphy Beds is what they call themselves now and they played for us at A St. Patrick's Day Celtic Sojourn in Sanders Theatre and New Bedford a few years ago and as part of a previous double bill in the Backroom in 2013.  Really well received and this is their first return to the area since then.

Also on the bill, Dana Lyn and Kyle Sanna...  Hailed as ground-breaking by noted folklorist and NEA Award-recipient Mick Moloney and bursting with creativity by renowned fiddler Kevin Burke, Dana Lyn and Kyle Sanna connect the dots between their experience as composers and improvisers in New York Citys rich musical community and their deep admiration for traditional Irish music. The duo has collaborated with some of the greatest living interpreters of Irish music, including Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill, Cillian Vallely, Kevin Burke, and Susan McKeown. Their second album, The Great Arc, is inspired by and concerned with extinct and endangered animal species. The Irish Echo called it "a deep musical work full of lavish, evocative textures" and Grammy-winning singer Susan McKeown called it "sublime".

I imagine - given the close personal relationships - there will be some amazing collaborations during this evening.

The Burren Backroom series is now well established as one of the most sought-after boutique series of trad presentation in the world.  It has already created already dozens of memorable, intimate, informal presentations held in a truly atmospheric space which was founded by well-known traditional musicians Tommy McCarthy and Louise Costello in Davis Square, Somerville, Massachusetts.

Hosted by Brian O'Donovan of A Celtic Sojourn on WGBH radio, these gatherings feature core performers from many aspects of traditional music as well as special guests, and conversations around the music.  As is the custom of the Burren, it is anticipated informal and dynamic post concert sessions will be a feature.

Ticket prices vary and there is a $5 discount for WGBH Members.  If you are a member, send an e-mail to celtic@wgbh.org and we will send you the code.

Seating is VERY limited and these events have been selling out, so get your tickets today!
