SABAW's 2012 Annual Reception!
Join the South Asian Bar Association of Washington (SABAW) for its annual banquet at FareStart on October 30, 2012. We are honored to have Akil Vohra, the Senior Advisor at the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders as our keynote speaker. At the Initiative, Akil supervises the following areas: education, the bullying prevention campaign, AAPI data issues, improving efforts of AAPI representation in federal government, and works directly with President Obama's Advisory Commission on AAPIs. Prior to the Initiative, Akil was Counsel at Muslim Advocates where he focused on anti-terrorism financing, strengthening the nonprofit sector, and civil rights and civil liberties issues.
Tickets are $65 and proceeds go to support FareStart's job training programs as well as SABAW's award winning scholarship program. This year, the price of admission includes a buffet dinner inspired by South Asia and created by the world class chefs at FareStart, a cash bar (but the first drink is on us!), and the opportunity to mingle, network, and enjoy the company of your peers, friends, and colleagues. Can't make it? Please consider making a donation so that we can encourage law students to support public interest projects serving the South Asian community in Washington.
SABAW is committed to being a resource for South Asian attorneys, law students, and members of the South Asian community. Our mission includes supporting the South Asian legal community and diversifying the legal profession by providing scholarships for law students, networking events, pro bono service, and supporting various minority bar initiatives. The annual banquet is an opportunity to honor and support these efforts and celebrate our vibrant community!
