GHOSTSHIP BENEFIT - Refuge: A Ballad for the Renting Class
El Circo Dia presents Refuge: A Ballad for the Renting Class; a site-specific aerial dance performance that brings the urgent conversation about San Franciscos housing crisis to the stage. Refuge reflects our city's shifting cultural landscape and will illuminate the need for a deeper social justice approach in sheltering San Franciscos most vulnerable citizens.
Featuring an original score by Shaina Evoniuk and scenic projections by animator Buddy Giguere, Refuge will showcase aerial rigging designs that allow the stage to shift perspective and engage the audience in vignettes depicting various lives affected by the housing crisis. Using rope and harness technique, aerial dancers Danielle Sexton, Azraa Muhammad and Helen Wicks will tell a story of the unexpected loss of what many believe to be permanent: their home.
El Circo Dia is a San Francisco based performance collective. Our mission is to strengthen the working relationship between performers, musicians and technology-based artists in order to cultivate joint artistic impact and cultural influence. In doing so, we aim to maintain the rich history of subversive creativity that has influenced the compassionate and forward thinking society of San Francisco.
Refuge is supported by Dancers Group CA$H Grant, Project Artaud Short Term Artists Residency and Individual Donors
ALL FUNDS RAISED WILL BE DONATED TO: Gray Area Foundation for the Arts who have organized an Oakland Fire Relief Fund to help those affected.
