January 2017 Bicycle Repair Class
Neighborhood Bike Works' next adult class on Basic Bike Repair meets for four Monday evenings, on January 9, 16, 19, and 26st, from 6:30-9:00pm. Lessons typically include parts of the bike and bike fit, care and feeding of your brakes and shifting, and an introduction to overhauling bearings. Other topics may be included at the students' and instructor's discretion. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes.
Neighborhood Bike Works is a nonprofit youth bicycle education agency; a portion of the fee from this class will go to support our youth programs.
Week 1: Bike Safety Check Flat Fix Tool & Bike part introduction
Week 2: Bearing Systems on the Bike - Wheel hubs (overhaul & adjustment) - Bottom brackets (overhaul & adjustment) - Headsets (overhaul & adjustment)
Week 3: Cables & Brakes - Brake types - Brake adjustment - Brake cable adjustment
Week 4: Gears & Chains - Front & rear derailleurs - Adjusting a derailleur - Replacing a chain
