Art | Song Salon: Phases
Friends! We cant believe the year is nearly over, and what a year it has been! To honor our Art Song community, we felt it was necessary to have one last event of the year to catch up, experience live music, and talk to artists about their work. On Sunday, December 11th, we present Phases: An Art | Song Salon.

As you know, the purpose of Art | Song is to bring the worlds of visual art and performance together around a community, and bring forth a rich dialogue around Art and Music at a very crucial time. That is why we invited Jon Fischer, a San Francisco-based artist and resident at Pacific Felt Factory, to talk about his latest collaboration with San Francisco musician Danny Clay, the project will conclude with performances at the Center for New Music during the 2016-17 season.

2016 LIVE RECORDING of a loop-based composition for piano, guitar, custom made sine wave records, & three turntables. This is the first phase of a project supported by the San Francisco Arts Commission to create three phonograph-like apparatuses that generate sounds from a collection of interchangeable, revolving sculptures based on geological landscapes of California. They will function as both (1) instruments played in a musical performance, and (2) works of public art that invite participation in a lobby, airport, or museum.

We are also excited to speak to Brian Singer, a San Francisco based fine artist whose projects have received international attention. His art ranges from intimate works with paper to large scale participatory projects. The 1000 Journals Project, launched in 2000, was turned into a book, a feature length documentary, and has been exhibited at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. The project was covered in The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Wall Street Journal, Entertainment Weekly, Better Homes and Gardens and many others. More recently, he launched the provocative project TWIT Spotting, where photos of people using their phones while driving were placed onto Billboards in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Jessica Wan, soprano, and Tim Eischens, piano, will perform a set of songs journeying from one phase of life to another, offering us yet another perspective on the human experience of change, the pain it presents, and how we honor the phases that have passed.
