In addition the band will mine much of the back catalog mixed in with the new material from the brand new CD INTO THIS WORLD released earlier this month. Tonights guest: MERRIE AMSTERBURG and PETER LINTON
"The sublime beauty of Amsterburg's voice and entrancingly melodic nature of her songs make this a rare audio treat. The lyrics sometimes deal with knotty emotions, but the caressing touch of Amsterburg's singing and the tasteful accompaniment are like a mind massage for listeners. This is pop music of exceedingly high caliber" Worcester Magazine
Merrie Amsterburg is a singer-songwriter born in Ludington, Michigan but she's no stranger to our local music community. Her music has folk, rock, and pop influences. She has been compared to Beth Orton, Tori Amos, Aimee Mann, and others. She has won two Boston Music Awards, a Boston Phoenix Award, and a Jam Magazine Award. Tonight she benefits from the beautiful guitar work of her husband, Peter Linton.
She uses several instruments in her songs, including the guitar, the trumpet, the mandolin, the Indian banjo, the bouzouki, the harmonium, and even a 1970s Kenmore washing machine.
Prior to her solo career, she was the guitarist and singer for The Natives and Miss Understood.
MORE ON DENNIS BRENNAN.... To the uninitiated, Brennan could be considered Boston's own Leonard Cohen or Elvis Costello. His songwriting is respected by critics and musicians alike. Not only adept with the pen, Dennis Brennan is a highly accomplished performer and is known for his ability to span musical genres, styles, and era's with ease. His emotive and passionate voice is comfortable tackling classic country and R& B as well classic jazz, rock and blues. But it's really Brennan's originals that have set him apart. The Chicago Sun Times described him as "A rootsy, hard-edged rocker with the barroom soul of the pre-Woodstock Graham Parker and the unsparing insight of a working class poet." It's a fitting description if ever there was one. To the initiated faithful who attend every show, Dennis and his band (which includes guitarists Duke Levine, Kevin Barry, Lyle Brewer, and Ian Kennedy on any given night along with the rhythm section of Billy Beard and Richard Gates) have etched so many indelible magical moments on the local collective conscious that they return each week to see what will happen next. . Do not miss your chance to see him... every Wednesday night right in your own back yard. The Dennis Brennan Band performs two sets every Wednesday night starting at 9:15 (8:30 doors). Ticket price may vary from week to week.
