Event
Working with LGBTQ Families, Cultural Competency for the Birth and Postpartum Period
This event is co-sponsored with the Sexuality Women and Gender Project at Teachers College, Columbia University
This workshop opens up a conversation that many birth workers are trying to navigate what is the experience of birth like for members of the LGBTQ community, and how do we support this community in having empowering and healthy births. The topics included in this session are: Examining various birth settings and models of care that have historically included/excluded queer birth, the role of non-gestational parent(s), choosing a care provider and preparing for birth, supporting LGBTQ families as a birth worker, and state/federal laws that impact LGBTQ families (e.g. second-parent adoption and hospital policies)
This workshop is free of charge.
