Falling Waters Music Camp 2017
Join us for the 5th annual Falling Waters Music Camp - a fun and inspiring weekend of instruction, jamming and performance located at the beautiful La Tourelle resort in Ithaca, NY. Classes and performances will be led by some great string instructors and performers including Brian Conway, David Surette & Susie Burke, 4 members of the Lonely Heartstring Band (Patrick MGonigle, George Clements, Matt Witler and Gabe Hirshfeld), Judy Hyman, Allison De Groot, Tatiana Hargreaves, Mark Panfil, Tim Ball, Paul Fairbanks, Rick Manning and others to be announced. Instruction will be offered on fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, dobro, singing and band at beginner, advanced beginner, intermediate and advanced levels in a variety of styles that include Irish, old-time, bluegrass, swing, contradance, and folk. Structured and impromptu jamming is an important part of the camp experience. This year we are offering more facilitated jam sessions for your participation and enjoyment, led by Curt Osgood, Michael Ludgate and friends.
This year, the weekend will begin earlier than in previous years, with structured and informal jam sessions on Friday at 12 noon. Two class sessions will be held on Friday afternoon with with a happy hour opening lobby reception, cash bar and jam in the La Tourelle Lobby at 5pm to 6:30pm. Dinner will be offered during the happy hour. New this year will be a Friday evening faculty concert at 7:00 pm. From 7 8pm faculty will introduce themselves and perform a couple of selections. After the intermission, faculty will perform an impromptu 90-minute set with solo performances, duos and groups. This Friday night show will be open to campers and the public. Jamming will follow throughout the hotel, late into the night.
Four 75-minute classes will be held on Saturday during the day and formal and informal jam sessions will be held between class sessions. La Tourelle will be offering breakfast, lunch and dinner and hosting a Saturday evening Lobby reception & jam with a cash bar, following by the popular Saturday Night camp faculty concert (open to the public) and jamming late into the night evening.
On Sunday we will be offering a full day of classes starting at 10am. 2 morning and 2 afternoon class sessions will be held with jams at 9 am, 12 noon and at the 4pm closing time.
